During the 2016 Great Indy Cleanup in 2016, Millersville volunteers teamed up with 30 energetic cadets from the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy to clear invasive bush honeysuckle from a long, overgrown stretch of woods between the Fall Creek Trail and the creek itself.
This area runs almost a mile along Fall Creek Parkway, North Drive, between 56th Street and Emerson Way, including the stretch adjancent to our Millersville at Fall Creek Preserve community park. Creek views were all but blocked out.
This was hard, hard work! Cutting, chopping, sawing, dragging, raking, sweeping and piling up huge stacks of woodland debris for pickup by our friends at Indy's Departement of Public Works.
The transformation was remarkable!
Beautiful new views of Fall Creek
Clearings where native trees, grasses and wild flowers can now grow
Big thanks to our fantastic cadets and their teachers for making this beautification project a giant success! And to Millersville residents who organized, supervised and worked with the kids.
